Connelly, Michael Annotated Bibliography & Selected Collectible Books

The intriguing and decidedly memorable name of Hieronymus "Harry" Bosch may be a familiar one to fans of detective fiction on both sides of the Atlantic. His creator, Michael Connelly, is a former journalist who has drawn comparisons with Silence of the Lambs author, Thomas Harris. Connelly interweaves different supporting characters across all his books and utilizes real-life events, such as the 9/11 attacks, which has helped create a loyal fan base and numerous literary awards.

His first major work¸ The Black Echo, introduced us to LAPD detective Harry Bosch. Published in 1992 by Little, Brown and Co. a first edition can fetch $200 to $300. His second of the Bosch novels published the following year, The Black Ice, would cost nearer to $100.

Connelly received significant media interest in his 1994 with his third Bosch novel, The Concrete Blonde when then American President, Bill Clinton, was seen buying a copy. The first edition is available to the collector now for as little as $30 to $40; although presumably President Clinton's copy may be worth significantly more.

Following the success of this series of novels, Connelly then introduced us to his second major reoccurring character, fierce defence attorney Mickey Haller. First editions of Haller's debut appearance in The Lincoln Lawyer from 2006 can be bought for $30 dollars or less.

Connelly's work has yet to appear on a regular basis in auctions so collectors will need to look elsewhere to find his books. But with a reputation that continues grow and a variety of high-profile fans, it may be that Connelly's stock grows further in the eyes of collectors. With more novels to come and possible film adaptations it is certainly feasible that Connelly will become a more collectable author.
