Conrad, Joseph Annotated Bibliography & Selected Collectible Books

Joseph Conrad is regarded as one of the greatest novelists of all time, scripting stories and novels engrossed in nautical settings. His plots usually give a picture of the trials and troubles of the human spirit in the midst of an uncaring European-dominated world and universe. His novels are written in a narrative style containing anti-heroic characters. His nautical themes were fashioned from his personal experiences in the French and British merchant navies. At the age of 36, Conrad's health began to decline. At that time, he gave up life at sea and devoted his time to writing.

Conrad's first novel, Almayer's Folly, was published in 1895. Sotheby's Auction house sold a first edition, presentation copy, inscribed by the author for $7,750. A first edition of Conrad's The Nigger of the andquot;Narcissusandquot;. A Tale of the Sea (1898) has an auction history of over $4,500.00 in recent years.

Conrad's literary career also included other works such as Heart of Darkness (1899), Lord Jim (1900), Nostromo (1904), The Secret Agent (1907) and Under Western Eyes (1911). His most financially successful novel, Chance (1913), marked the dawn of Conrad's public persona as a great writer.
