First Edition Prices, Values and Auction Results

In Renegade Christmas, Beat Generation poet, William Everson continues his cycle of poems beginning with "The Masks of Drought" published by Black Sparrow Press. The first edition book of five poems was published by Lord John Press (Northridge, CA) in 1984 with an orange woodcut frontispiece by Daniel O. Stolpe. There are 151 copies of this version; 125 are numbered with 26 lettered. Other versions are published without letters or numbers. The signature of the author will make a difference in auction prices. High-end copies and presentation copies in near fine command in the neighborhood of $200.

We collected a sample of 16 auction results of Everson, William's Renegade Christmas from 1 different auction houses. The lowest overall price realized in our sample was $36 and the highest overall price realized was $270. The overall average price was $126 and the median price realized for the book was $120. There were 10 auctions (62%) with a price realized below the low estimate, 0 auctions (0%) exceeding the high estimates, and 6 auctions (38%) within the range of the low and high estimates. Auctions of interest include: a PBA sale on January 26, 2017 of a 1984 - Lord John Press edition for $270 that 10 of 125 numbered and signed by the author; a PBA sale on April 16, 2015 of a 1984 - Lord John Press edition for $204 that with an inscription from author;
