Description: Octavo, yellow-orange cloth lettered in gilt. Crane A39. First edition, with wood engravings by Thomas W. Nason. A presentation copy of Frost's favorite poems for young readers, inscribed: "To Barbara Pinkerton from his father's friend Robert Frost, Christmas 1959," on the free endpaper; with a note in the 12-year-old Pinkerton's hand below the inscription detailing her meeting with the famous poet. Barbara Pinkerton, a New Hampshire teacher, was the daughter of William M. Pinkerton. The descendant of the Pinkerton family, who founded Pinkerton Academy, where Frost taught, William M. Pinkerton was a student of Frost's at the University of Michigan and subsequent director of public affairs at Harvard University. A handsome copy with a distinguished provenance.
