Description: 8vo, red orange cloth with gilt titles, 512pp. Price clipped dust jacket. Special Kentucky Edition, limited to one thousand copies, signed by the author to the colophon in front. Stated first printing. Flyleaf page appears torn out. A large damp stain to boards and front endpapers, pages lightly rippled. Substantial discoloration to reverse of dust jacket and soiling to front flap, however outer panels of dust jacket show no staining, only mild creases to edges and spine. A presentable copy, less defects, looking nice in mylar.

Brown buckram, some scars and scratches, with a black ink panel with gilt lettering on the spine. Square and firmly bound with a top stain, rear hinge starting, clean internally. Description: First edition. Near fine in a handsome but good only dust jacket with stains visible on the inside only. Nicely Inscribed by Warren: "To Bud and Mildred with lovely affection. Red. NYC. May 31, 1950." The recipients were Bertrand Harris 'Bud' Bronson and his wife Mildred. Bronson was an English professor at Berkeley from the 1930s until his retirement and a distinguished scholar. Warren likely met him at Oxford in 1929. There are References to Bronson in Warren's *Letters* in Volumes two and three.
