Fine in fine dw, INSCRIBED by Greene to Gatenby on the front end paper, where Gatenby has added his signature and contemporaneous date atop the page. Beautiful association copy of Greene's second autobiographical undertaking!

Description: #53 of 150 copies SIGNED by Greene on the limitation page. Fine in brown boards, absent dw as issued, in a matching fine brown slipcase. Reportedly only 20 or so copies were produced in this format, rather than the 150 called for, which belies this being #53! Regardless, a very scarce format for this second installment in Greene's autobiography.

Description: First Edition. Hardback. 8vo. Original publisher's full brown leather lettered gilt on spine and on front cover. The first edition of the work, preceding all others -published in Canada, Copy number 1 of an edition of 150 (but in fact only 20 or fewer were leather bound, with the matching slip-case.) The remaining unbound sheets were later sold in green cloth. This copy is numbered 1 and comes with the publisher's original prospectus. Book and slip-case fine.

Corners and spine ends a little bumped, otherwise a very good copy in a price clipped dust jacket with a fade to the spine and a couple of folds in the rear jacket flap. This copy inscribed by Graham Greene to his Canadian publisher Malcolm Lester. Inscribed on the front endpaper, "For Malcolm Lester/ with good wishes,/Graham Greene"

There was also an unsigned trade edition. This was the Canadian edition, preceding all others, including the US and UK editions.
