Kent, Rockwell. Voyaging Southward from the Strait of Magellan (AUTHOR'S AUTOGRAPH EDITION). New York & London: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1924.

Price: US$1000.00 + shipping

Description: Scarce limited "Author's Autograph Edition" of 110 numbered and signed copies with an original signed woodcut, this being #6 and a presentation copy from Kent to his "dear friend" and publisher, George Putnam, expressing his "gratitude - too often not expressed - that I must forever feel for him - and do" and signed again, "Affectionately, / Rockwell"; George Palmer Putnam, an author & explorer, was later the discoverer of an at-the-time unknown aviatrix, Amelia Earhart, whom he sponsored on her first transatlantic flight & later married; he was also, of course, the then-current head of the longtime Putnam publishing family; printed at the Knickerbocker Press on heavy-stock paper, rough-cut to the bottom and foredges, there is a full-page woodcut unique to this edition - in addition to the signed one - appearing after the Introduction, and the illustrated endpapers are not reproduced in subsequent editions (a map of Tierra del Fuego appears instead); a Very Good copy in faux-vellum-backed blue papered boards with panel & spine title labels, minor shelf & edge wear to the boards with a little quiet soiling (primarily along spine) and a small half-inch circular stain mid-spine, light bump to spine top/rear panel, 2 tiny pinholes along front gutter, very slight gap between signatures at pages 64-5, else hinges & binding tight, pages unmarked & an overall excellent example of this beautifully produced and printed Rockwell Kent classic, with truly one-of-a-kind associations; 4to; xvi + 184pp illus + signed bound-in woodcut.
