Boards rather soiled, especially along spine, some rubbing to margins, hinges starting, else a Good to Very Good, sound copy overall. Signed by the author on limitation page.

Description: Octavo, xii, 351pp, [1]. Paper boards, uncut, title in black on label affixed to spine. Slight lean to text block, wear to edges, small dampstain to top corner of first chapter. Closed tear across page 135. Previous ownership inscription on front free endpaper. Complete with seven illustrated plates, including frontispiece with tissue guard. From a limited edition of 1000 copies signed by the author, this is number 520. A unique association copy. This book was dedicated by Booth Tarkington to his mother, who signed this copy on the dedication page. Elizabeth Booth Tarkington (1841-1909) died before her son was declared "America's most significant contemporary author" by Publisher's Weekly, but she is remembered as the one who kindled his interest in literature. His mother was featured in two of his novels, The Two Van Revels (1902) and Penrod and Sam (1916).
