Bright blue endpapers. The spine ends and the bottom fore edge corners of the covers are bumped. The dust jacket has minor edge wear. Profusely illustrated by Joe Servello. Kotzwinkle's affectionate tribute to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Inscribed by Kotzwinkle on the half title page. The inscription reads, "For___, William Kotzwinkle, 8/4/95."

In a tribute to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's tales, William Kotzwinkle has crafted five intricately detailed stories in a Holmesian fashion, featuring Inspector Mantis and his companion, Dr. Hopper. The anthropomorphic insect duo pursue their sleuthsome adventures in a Victorian atmosphere and encounter some rather curious entomological twists.
