Book in very good condition, original cloth-backed boards with paper label pasted to upper cover, lower corners a little scuffed, uncut, dust-jacket in bright condition, spine head heavily chipped with loss of letters, small amounts of chipping and rubbing to spine foot and fold ends, some light surface toning.

Armorial bookplate of C F J Beausire to front paste-down; hand-made paper with pages uncut and mostly unopened. Spare title label tipped-in to rear. Jacket neatly price clipped to spine; slight loss at corners and at head of spine just affecting titles, with minor edge-wear, a few nicks & creases top edge and overall surface soiling. Faint ghost mark to cloth at spine due to price clipping of jacket; slight bump to lower front corner and light rubbing to edges. Light surface soiling to clamshell box with a little rubbing to spine. A clean, bright and attractive example of this childrens classic in a beautiful signed & very limited edition.

Housed in custom quarter goatskin clamshell box. Contemporary (1929) Methuen ad laid in. Jacket lightly soiled with narrow 1'' chip off front panel, very light chipping to head of spine, short closed tears to front joint. Book exceptionally nice.

Description: First edition, number 30 of 200 copies on handmade paper, signed by Milne and Kenneth Grahame; 4to (235 x 190 mm); publisher's quarter blue cloth-backed boards, with paper label on upper board (spare one tipped-in at the end), printed dust-jacket, spine darkened with minor chipping to extremities, small, expert restorations to upper edge, minor shelf wear, otherwise a bright and clean copy in the scarce dust-jacket. A very attractive copy of the first dramatisation of Wind in the Willows, here in deluxe format signed by Milne and Grahame. Milne extracted the adventures of Mr. Toad, which form only about half of the original book because they lent themselves most easily to being staged. Milne loved Grahame's book, which is one of the reasons he decided to adapt it. The play has four main characters: Rat, Badger, Mole, and Toad. Toad's caravan and car adventures are included, as well as his imprisonment, escape, and subsequent fight with the weasels and stoats to regain his home with the help of his friends. Although not a musical, the play contains six songs.
