Rose, with the patron of the arts and prominent attorney's bookplate on the front pastedown. Rose (1904-2002), a onetime law partner of Richard Nixon and John N. Mitchell in the firm Nixon Mudge Rose Alexander & Mitchell, was instrumental in bringing Nixon into the firm in 1963 after he had lost the election for governor of California. Rose's collection of art was donated to the Cleveland Art Institute and to the Williams College Art Museum, which has a room bearing his name.
