A bit of scuffing and chipping to the corners as well as the head and tail of the spine of the binding. There is evidence of bookplate removal to the front free and fixed endpaper. Lacking slipcase.

With original illustrations by John Tenniel re-engraved by Frederic Warde and Bruno Rollitz; the first volume is signed at the rear limitation page by Warde. Bound in publisher's original red and blue (respectively) full leather heavily decorated in gilt, with all edges gilt; in publisher's original blue and red cloth slipcases.
