Description: 305 pp. 8vo, publisher's green cloth; preserved in a custom quarter morocco folding box. First edition. Front free endpaper lacking with a tiny loss to the upper corner of the front pastedown; rear (inner) hinge split but underlying structure sound; top edge of the text block darkened; else a very good copy with most of the gold lettering on the spine present. There is some minor scuffing to the extremities of the spine, mostly at the bottom. Author's first book. Signed and inscribed by F. Scott Fitzgerald for "My Dear Friend Chad Davis" on the half-title page.

The gold is quite bright and completely legible. Author's first book. Signed by F. Scott Fitzgerald for Edward Everett Horton, with a full-page inscription, including "the later Ring Lardner once said of Irwin Cobb that he was 'very fond of books, of which he has a complete set'." Edward Everett Horton, a Hollywood actor, was Fitzgerald's landlord in the late 1930s in Encino, California.

According to the Fitzgerald Bibliography by Bruccoli, "500 copies of the third printing have a special tipped-in glossy leaf bearing "The Author's Apology" each signed by Fitzgerald. These copies were prepared for a meeting of the American Booksellers Association." The book is bound in the ORIGINAL publisher's cloth and is in amazing shape. The gold lettering on the spine is present, and the boards are crisp with slight wear to the edges. The binding is tight and square with NO cocking.
