The critic Beerbohm (1872-1956) was named by "The Times" as "the greatest of English comic artists" and named by the critic Edmung Wilson as "the greatest.portrayer of personalities- in the history of art". - Binding loosened, inner joints broken, binding stained, back browned.

The scarce original dust jacket is present but spine darkened and large open tear to rear panel.

Description: A signed limited edition collection of fifty plates by the caricaturist Max Beerbohm, in the original unclipped dustwrapper. A limited edition work, limited to three hundred and eighty copies, of which this is numbered two hundred and twenty five. Signed by Beerbohm to the edition page. Additional signed colour plate to the pocket to the rear. In the very scarce original unclipped dust wrapper. A collection of plates by Max Beerbohm, an English caricaturist. The drawings in this book were shown at the Leicester Galleries in the summer of 1922. Illustrated with a tipped in colour frontispiece, and forty-nine monochrome plates, as well as the additional signed colour plate. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, smart. A few light marks to the boards. Just a little bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown. Dust wrapper is very smart and remarkably complete with a little discolouration only with some minor marks. Repaired tears to the reverse of the spine and reverse of the folds.
