Description: 15 volumes. Original half white vellum and gilt red silk over boards, octavos (5.5 x 8.75 inches), illustrated with photogravure plates, facsimiles. Card autographed by Oliver Wendell Holmes and dated Boston, Dec. 26th 1889 mounted to front pastedown. BAL 9214 (exc. Life & Letters). Though the delicate red silk has deteriorated somewhat the gilt vellum spines are unblemished and the set looks very attractive on the shelf. Silk quite rubbed at edges and corners with boards exposed, vellum spines quite clean and unworn, some foxing, some inner hinges starting.

Beautifully bound in 3/4 red leather with marble boards and endpapers. 5 Raised leather bands to spines. Gilt top foredges, as well as gilt spine lettering and floral design. Light toning to the spine. Some rubbing to the edges of the boards. Limited to 750 sets of the Artists's Edition, this being set 170. There is a gouge to the edge of the front board of volumes 8 and 9 and to the top of vol 13. Small tear to front endpaper of vol 9. Volume I: The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table.
