Condition: Near Fine

Description: 82pp. Five sections of commentary (by Jeannie O'Connor) and wood-engravings by John O'Connor, based on five decades of the artist's working life. A limited edition of 350 copies printed on Tosa Butten and Zerkall mould-made paper, including fifty special editions. This is special edition #49 and is SIGNED on the colophon by both Jean and John O'Connor. Quarter-bound with brown Nigerian Goatskin and gilt lettering on the spine. Floral decorated covered boards. Light orange end papers, which is also used to cover the slip case. Red and yellow sewn headbands. Numerous illustrations throughout including a full-page wood-engraving as a frontispiece (Lancashire Girl, 1945). The portfolio of eight additional prints (all initialed by the artist) unfortunately has some deficits. Two of the engravings, the coloured copy of the frontispiece and a b/w copy of the floral front cover of the book, have some light foxing to the margins. (These two prints are now protected in a large archival envelope). Three other b/w prints have a faint spot or two on the left hand margin. The remaining three prints are clean. The orange paper covered folder is in fine condition. The book and the portfolio are enclosed within a russet cloth edged slip case, with just some slight shelf wear. Otherwise all in fine condition. Extra photos can be provided if required.
