First Trade Edition, First Printing, as designated by "First Trade Edition" printed on copyright page. The first edition was a Franklin Library Press signed limited edition. This is the Knopf trade edition. A very good, signed hardcover copy, purple cloth covered boards, purple cloth covered spine with silver and gold lettering. Book is solid, spine is straight. Board corners just short of sharp, fading on top of board edges/spine. Pencil erasure residue on front free endpaper. Red magic marker remainder mark on bottom page edges. Not ex-library, no previous owner markings or book plates. Author signature and inscription to previous owner on full title page in black ink. Near fine, still bright unclipped dust jacket ($15.95 price intact). Slight sunning to top of flaps, flap corners slightly bent. Minor wear on covers from shelving, creasing to top/bottom of spine. The book is in near fine condition with a remainder mark on the top stain and light spotting confined to the rear free end paper. It has a tight and square binding, with no owner inscriptions or highlighting. The dust jacket is also in near fine condition, not price-clipped ($15.95 ), with light rubbing and chipping at the extremities but no tears and some shelf wear.
