Signed on limitation page at front: "For Michael Lindsay / Henry Miller". In Miller's hand, in the same ink, he has numbered this copy No. 1,356,494. Four black and white reproductions of Miller watercolors and a tipped-in photograph frontispiece portrait of Emil Schnellock. A 2" split at bottom edge of spine. A few spots to cover. Interior is clean and unmarked.

One of a thousand copies, signed by Miller on the limitation page, with the number entry left blank. Near fine. The Subject of Watercolor in Some of Its More Liquid Phases. A collection of notes from Miller on painting addressed to his teacher, Emil Schnellock, who first put a brush in Miller's hand in 1922. Remember, to paint is to love again. That's why this book is, above all, a love story, one told to lifelong friend and artistic mentor. Quite rare, particularly signed and in such fine condition.

The first printed edition of a small manuscript book that Miller had originally prepared for his friend Emil Schnellock in 1939. This copy Inscribed by Miller to June Mansfield, his second wife, and the inspiration for much of his best fiction: "For June - a souvenir of Paris & Schnellockian days. Henry. 3/51."
