Leather at the spine ends very lightly scuffed, one bottom corner very lightly rubbed, plastic jacket included but chipped at the corners and spine ends, with a hole in the middle of the spine. Slipcase present too but also worn at the edges and split at one side. Six Literary Essays. Limited to 500 copies of which this is no. 297, signed by Somerset Maugham.

Including a fascinating piece on the decline and fall of the detective story; 'Some Novelists I Have Known', which includes some very enjoyable anecdotes concerning Henry James, H.G. Wells and Arnold Bennett; and 'Reflections on a Certain Book', a thought-provoking piece concerning Kant's Critique of the Power of Judgment. All in all, a very varied collection.

Bound in half mushroom calf with blue calf boards, the book is in Near Fine condition with only touches of light wear. With gold top edge gilt, rough cut edges, and the remnants of the scarce glassine dustjacket. The slipcase is black and solid with only light wear at the corners. A beautiful copy and a scarce important signature.
