This was the author's first husband's copy (poet William Jay Smith - purchased from him) although it is not signed by Howes nor Smith. Smith is also the dedicatee of this book. One of 250 numbered copies. A fine copy of her rare first book. Barbara Howes (1914 - 1996 ) was an American poet. Her work was published in, Atlantic, Chicago Review, New Directions, New Republic, New Yorker,[4] New York Times Book Review, Saturday Review, Southern Review, University of Kansas Review, Virginia Quarterly Review, and Yale Review and she was nominated for the 1995 National Book Award for The Collected Poems of Barbara Howes, 1945-1990.
