Pullman, Philip. The Tiger in the Well. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1990, 1990.

Price: US$265.19 + shipping

Condition: Near Fine

Description: ======= SIGNED by AUTHOR to a bookplate (the author's own personalised bookplate) affixed to the half-title page . A rare early Pullman novel and the third and concluding book of the Sally Lockhart trilogy. Tan boards with chocolate brown cloth quarter binding to spine and gold titles to the spine. The first American edition, which preceded the UK (Viking) version, the publishing details show the printing sequence (2,4,6,8,10,9,7,5,3,1). The DJ has minor wear to the edge of the spine. The book has no inscriptions or previous owner's names and the jacket is not price clipped. Whilst Pullman has won the Carnegie Medal, the Guardian Children's Fiction Award, the Smarties Prize and Children's Book of the Year at the British Book Awards it was only the final instalment of the His Dark Materials trilogy (which even made the Booker prize longlist and then went onto win the prestigious Whitbred Book of the Year) that seems to have garnered him the popular acclaim he undoubtedly deserves. Signature is genuine, (I have a photo of myself with Mr Pullman should proof be required) but I did not have the book with me at the time - hence the bookplate.
