Description: Text of essays for each month of the year by John Clare newly illustrated with twelve tissue-guarded wood-engravings by John Lawrence (printed on Japanese hand-made paper). Originally published by the Oxford University Press in 1964 this is the first edition by Paradine. Printed on Velin Arches paper by John Randle at The Whittington Press in a limited, numbered edition of 500 copies. This is copy #263 and is signed on the colophon by the illustrator and the printer. Quarter bound in green buckram with gilt lettering on the spine. Light green paper covered boards. Top edge gilt with green silk ribbon page mark. Black and white sewn headband. Untrimmed fore edge and lower page edges. Tiny colour flaw and faint scratch to front cover paper and a fleck of gilt on front spine hinge. Previous owner's neat bookplate tipped to decorated front paste down. Pencil note re limitation on first title page. There is no slip case with this copy.Otherwise all in fine condition.
