LE CARRE, John. The Russia House. Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1989.

Price: US$61.76 + shipping

Condition: Fine

Description: AUTHOR SIGNED / LIMITED EDITION - AN AMALGAMATION : This book is one of only 500 copies. That was its main or unique selling point. Bound in quarter black leather, silver gilt titles to spine, with plain beige boards. The book has turquoise ep's and pastedowns, the edges are all silver gilt and we have the original silk book mark. This comes with the original black slip case. However, a previous owner decided, for his or her own reasons, to add a genuine John Le Carre signature mounted onto black card to the title page. This reads as follows: 'From John Le Carre dated 4th Dec 1989', this is within a printed cartouche from Hodder & Stoughton, and has clearly come from one of the authors trade editions, possibly to try to enhance the value. In that regard, this has failed. However, I still consider that the book retains a value, as both elements described above, the book and then the signature are both genuine. Unfortunately, some marriages do not work out as planned! Looks unread. 344 pages { Subject: Publishers and publishing ; Fiction. Intelligence officers ; Fiction.Le Carre´, John Signed British Russia ; Fiction. Espionage Soviet Union ; Fiction. }

The manuscript is from a mysterious source known only as "Goethe," who claims to have information about a new and terrifying Soviet weapons system. As Barley becomes more involved in the mission, he becomes increasingly embroiled in a web of espionage and deceit. The novel is known for its complex characters, intricate plot, and depiction of the changing geopolitical landscape of the late Cold War era.
