Snugly bound and neat in original graphic title lettered dust jacket with publisher's $4.95 issue price intact to unclipped front flap. Tipped in at front is a Gardner signed title page for his juvenile collection, "Dragon, Dragon." Quarter black cloth backed spine lettered brightly in gilt over patterned brown paper covered sides. Trace shelf evidence to cloth at spine ends. Jacket a trifle faded at spine with a hint of shelf evidence at spine ends and a short closed tear top edge of the cover panel that has a an archival paper tape mend on the reverse surface. No marks of any kind. Solid and attractive copy of Gardner's uncommon 1st novel, especially so in condition and with his signature. NF/VG; Signed by Author

Description: Near fine (boards are somewhat bowed and there are touches of wear at the tips) in dj that is unfaded and with only slight touches of wear. One of 2500 copies, this copy of John Gardner's first novel is signed by him on the front free endpaper. This novel was Gardner's second regularly published book (the anthology, Forms of Fiction, which Gardner edited with Lennis Dunlap, was its only predecessor) and the first Gardner "A" item. This is a handsome copy and seldom seen in this condition.
