Octavo, cloth, spine lettered in purple, Heinemann windmill stamped in purple to lower right corner of rear board; top minld toning and soiling, top right corner of front board bumped and wrinkled. Cream colored endpapers, all edges trimmed; moderate toning to endpapers and half-title, internally generally clean but with some intermittent foxing. In original printed purple dust jacket; some minor chipping, professional restorations on verso, particularly along spine panel joints. Inscribed and signed "For Clive Hirschhorn - Graham Greene". Inscribed and signed on title page by the author to noted theater critic and collector of modern first editions, Clive Hirschhorn. A very good first edition copy of this title, one of the 3500 of this first edition printed. Housed in burgundy cloth clampshell with red leather labels stamped in gilt to front board and spine. One of the best novels of the 20th century, and often regarded as Greene's masterpiece. Almost never found with original dust jacket, let alone signed with this provenance.
