Description: 13 1/2 x 9 in. cloth-covered clamshell box, 68 pp. sewn in hemp paper wrappers. Printed letterpress, with 6 woodcuts by Robert Mangold accompanying Susan Howe's poem. This book was printed on Somerset Satin and Kozo/Gampi, by Fuji Paper Mills. It was bound by Claudia Cohen. Woodblocks were prepared by James Cooper, and the type (thirteen point Bembo) was cast by Michael and Winifred Bixler. The edition contains 83 copies total. Copies I through XVIII are bound in full vellum with a seventh woodcut included. Copies 1-65 are bound in master papermaker's Tim Barrett's hemp paper. Barrett's presence here is interesting and significant; his research and praxis on papermaking was awarded a MacArthur Foundation grant, and his papers have been entrusted for use within and against documents such as the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence. Susan Howe's poem was also published in a trade edition by New Directions. This is from the edition of 65 copies bound in Tim Barrett's hemp paper. Signed by the poet and artist. As new.
