Description: First State with last plate facing page 238 without 'grotesque' border, frontis portrait by W. Greatbatch after a paintingby S. Raven, lacks half title. Full polished calf binding signed by Morrell, teg, inner dentells decorated in gilt, 5 raised bands with 6 decorated compartments. VERY GOOD both volumes have minor scuffing and corners are lightly bumped, shelfwear. Volume 1 has abrasion at head of spine with wear to two of the bands, Volume 2 has minor loss of gilt at head of spine.

Description: First Edition, First State. Hardcover. Signed fine binding by London's Root & Son. First issue, without the 'grotesque' border added to V2 p. 238 [Eckel, 140]. Includes 13 superb engraved illustrations by George Cruikshank. Noted flaws notwithstanding, a presentable (and repairable) set of this minor classic. Moderate shelf/edge wear, spine darked and dry (likely exposed, shelved, to a house fire), spine labels missing, all joints tender and/or split, front board of V2 free, light sporadic foxing, focused at preliminaries, else tight, bright, and unmarred. Signed full tan leather binding, five raised bands, gilt lettering, marbled endpages, tissueguard, teg. 8vo. 288; 263pp. Illus. (b/w plates).

Description: FIRST EDITION, 1st issue. 2 vols. Half titles, fronts. & plates rather spotted in places. Later 19thC full scarlet crushed morocco by Riviere & Son, gilt spines, double-ruled borders & dentelles; leading hinge a little weak vol. I. With the orig. pink cloth bound in at end of each vol. Bookplates of J.F. Hinckley. t.e.g. The plate 'The Last Song' appears without a border (1st issue). This copy has been bound with one of George Cruikshank's original designs for one of the plates. The pencil drawing is signed by Cruikshank, and bound in opposite the printed version between pages 238 and 239 in volume one. The plate is Mr Mackintosh's Covey, portraying a scene where Grimaldi went pigeon shooting with his friend Bologna.
