Condition: Very Good

Description: Signed first paperback printing and movie tie-in edition of the second and scarcer of Grafton's two mainstream literary novels. First published in hardcover in 1969, Grafton's second published novel preceded her Kinsey Millhone mysteries by more than a decade. THE LOLLY-MADONNA WAR is a gritty tale of violent Tennessee hill-country family feuding that ends in a shower of gunfire and blood: powerfully attractive themes and imagery for 1970s Hollywood. The novel was consequently adapted into the film LOLLY-MADONNA XXX in 1973 by director Richard Sarafian, with a screenplay co-written by Grafton and starring Rod Steiger, Jeff Bridges, and Gary Busey. Only published in the U.K; rare in any edition, particularly signed. 7'' x 4.25''. Original color photographic wrappers. 159, [1] pages. Bookseller ink stamps to inside front cover and front endpaper. Signed by Grafton on title page. Light corner creasing to front cover; small scuffed patch and faint soil to rear cover. Spine lightly sunned. Minor foxing to a few pages. Housed in custom gilt-stamped brown leather clamshell case.
