The author has signed her name to the dedication page and has corrected the dedicatee from 'Janice' to 'Jamie' as she often did when signing this particular book. The author clarified this when she pointed out in a letter to John Baxter, the bibliophile that there is a 'curious little flaw' in the first edition of this book : 'There's a mistake in the dedication', which reads 'For Pat.and in memory of Janice'. All later editions read 'Jamie, who was my father'. A secretarial 'blunder', which caused a terrific row at the time'. The other dedicatee 'Pat' being her mother ( who 'did not approve of the subject matter of the book').' The author's acclaimed debut novel. More images available on request.
