Description: 1st Edition, 1st Printing with "Baker" for "Butcher" on p83. 12.3 x 18.7 cm scarce presentation binding in bluish-green cloth with black stamped tiles and decoration to the boards and spine. All edges gilt, black endpapers [vi] 83 [3]pp including final page of author's works. With 8 full page illustrations plus tissue-guarded frontispiece and blank Ocean Chart. A scarce original Easter Greeting letter is pasted to the front free endpaper. The book is inscribed on the half title page by two of Carroll's sisters, Louisa Fletcher Dodgson and Margaret Anne Ashley Dodgson, to Amy Walters, [who is listed in Edward Wakeling's Catalogue Raisonné of Lewis Carroll's photographs: image 2310, June 1875, aged 19]. 'Amy Walters, with LF & MAA Dodgson's love. April 3. 1876.' The front board has a crease at the bottom right corner. The book has been re-backed with the original spine (with slight loss at tips) re-laid. The binding is firm and square. Internally, the LF & MAA Dodgson inscription is at the top of the half title page and there is a later, neat ownership name towards the bottom of the same page. The letter pasted to the ffep, "An East Greeting for Every Child Who Loves Alice", published to be given away with copies of The Hunting of the Snark, has the words ". when my turn comes to walk through the valley of shadows" underlined and a tiny neat note alongside saying "It came Jan. 14 1898". There is a later ownership inscription towards the bottom of the half title page. There is a little foxing over the first few pages (notably page 11) and sporadic finger marks etc. throughout. There is no tissue guard present for the illustration on page 74. The Burn & Co. label is present at the bottom left corner of the rear pastedown. A very scarce binding, one of 40 bluish-green copies, and great association copy.
