Hardcover, bound in yellow boards backed with a dark blue cloth spine, in a color pictorial blue dust wrapper. The covers are lightly bumped. The price-clipped dust jacket is rubbed and the jacket's edges are slightly creased. [viii] & 485 pages. The book's edges are soiled with stains to the fore edge. Very good. First printing, in the first issue dust wrapper with "mist" for "myth" on the front inner flap and "Mickey" for "Becky" on the rear inner flap. Description: A nice copy of Abbey's semi-autobiographical novel. Warmly inscribed on the front free endpaper by Abbey. The book has an ink line on the top of text block, very light wear to head and heel of spine. The dust jacket has a light rub along the area where the spine binding meets the yellow portiion of the boards, creating a ridge that has made a faint impression on the dust jacket. A small scuff mark near apine and light wear at head of spine. No chips or tears. None of these defects is very noticeable and this is a nice book anyone would be proud to have in their collection. Description: First edition w/complete number line, hardcover, signed by Abbey on the front fly leaf, the book has a shallow skew to the binding, light bumps to the spine ends and cover corners, a few tiny spots to the head of the text block, and some effaced bookseller marks to the upper fore corner of the front fly leaf. Overall, this is a solid, tight and bright, Very Good+ copy in a like, unclipped dust jacket, which has bumps with some light creasing to the spine ends and corners, a hint of sunning to the spine, and some mild rubbing to the covers. The jacket is wrapped in Mylar.

Abbey considered Fool's Progress to be his magnum opus and completed it not long before his death.

Semi-autobiographical work about a man, who refuses to submit to modern commercial society, and walks from Arizona to West Virginia. Abbey considered this novel his "fat masterpiece." This was the last novel published in Abbey's lifetime. Edward Abbey (1927-1989) was a celebrated author, essayist, conservationist, noted pain-in-the-ass, and in many ways the father (or at the very least, uncle) of the modern environmental movements.
