Description: New York/London: Maurice Inman/Maggs Bros., 1932. PHOTOS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. #174 of 250 large paper copies printed on all rag paper, specially bound, numbered, and SIGNED by the AUTHOR. Fine condition in a Near Fine dust jacket and Very Good original slipcase. The book itself is gorgeous with NO fading. It is beautifully bound in three quarter dark blue (almost black) leather over pale blue cloth. The leather is extremely well preseved - perfect but for a tiny bit of light rubbing at the foot of the spine. Gilt lettering is still bright and shiny as new. Hinges are perfect. Sharp corners. The dust jacket is Near Fine, mildly sunned at the spine. It has been long protected by a clear plastic sleeve so there are NO chips. NO tears. The original slipcase is bound in matching cloth with paper-covered board sides. The slipcase is Very Good, lightly rubbed with moderate finger soil on its paper sides. Top edge gilt. Pages are fresh, crisp, clean, and unmarked - probably never read. NO owner's name or bookplate. First printing of the 1932 revised and enlarged edition. Illustrated with 29 reproductions of title page facsimiles, suppressed plates, rare dust jackets (including the earliest known from The Mystery of Edwin Drood), etc. Tissue-guarded frontispiece. Still an essential bibliography as it contains detailed descriptions of Dickens' writings, publication histories and background data that are not readily available elsewhere. From limitation page: "Printed on Worthy Aurelian all-rag paper. The type has been distributed. Number 174 (signed) John C. Eckel.". Revised and Enlarged, Lmtd 250 numbered. Hardcover.
