Folio, bound in full contemporary green morocco, raised bands, elaborate gilt compartments, decorative gilt border on both boards, inner dentelles gite, t.e.g., 339, [1] pages. Profusely illustrated in colour throughout. Some rubbing to the extremities, outer hinges rubbed with the outer front hinge starting at top and foot and tender, but still nice copy in an attractive binding.

Dec 1882 laid in. 15 ½ x 13. [7] Half-Title page at [5], frontispiece, Title Page, Limitation Page, [6] Preface at [1,2], 13-339 [1] pp. Spine re-backed in dark red leather with gold lettering. Original boards, with front board heavily tanned (browned) at front edge. Bottom edges heavily worn. Front/back edges worn at the corner areas. Top boards with three worn spots. Leather torn at top of spine, an inch. Spine ends worn. Legible spine lettering. Bottom front cover with 3 rubbed areas with loss. Rear cover is rubbed, a few small areas of wear, few scratches. TEG. First ten pages have foxing and spotting but very clean thereafter. Illustrations bright. [A note: The signatures of Routledge and Evans on the limitation page are facsimiles. In the 1887 1st Edition of The Complete Collection of Pictures and Songs those same facsimiles appear, all 1250 of them. Exactly as they do in this Collection. He traveled the globe winning many steeplechase and jumping events. It may be his interest in horses that drew him to admire Caldecotts interest in and illustrations of horses.
