(6), 40, (2)pp. One of 100 copies signed by the contributors: Milne, who wrote the lyrics; Shepard, who lent his characteristic illustrations of Pooh, Christopher Robin, and company; and H. Fraser-Smith, who composed the music. The tempo directions for the songs suitably charming, instructing the musician to play "Hurriedly," "In moderate time, like a beetle," or "Quickly or slowly according to who's winning." Bound in blue cloth-backed boards covered with gray paper, and with paper label to upper cover. Mild exterior toning, some rubs to corners, else a near fine copy.

This is a first edition of A.A. Milne's By Way of Introduction. Milne has signed the book on the title page in blue ink. The book is presented with its original beige dust jacket. It was published out of London by Methuen & Co., Ltd., in 1929. This book features a collection of introductions written by Alan Alexander Milne (1882-1956). The collection of essays and excerpts were written for various publications and compiled by Milne. The work shows off his accessible and sometimes humorous writing style, recognizable from his children's books. There is a selection of his critical work included in the volume, as well a piece about his philosophical approach to writing children's books throughout his career, and even a few details about his Winnie the Pooh character, Christopher Robin. Milne was best known for his children's book series Winnie the Pooh. Included in the back of the book is a loose pamphlet advertising the Pooh series as "the most popular gift books," with illustrations. CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Original dust jacket has some shelf ware, light bumping at corners. Dust jacket is protected in a mylar sleeve. The signature is clean and legible. Internal pages clean. Accompanied by a custom, archival clamshell case with quarter leather, raised bands on the spine, and gilt tooling. There is an inlaid image of Milne on the front cover of the clamshell.
