Description: A marvelous fine press rendering of Chandler's noir classic, illustrated with new photographs shot by legendary photographer Lou Stoumen in vintage 1940s black and white style. The book is bound in beveled plexiglass boards and spine, with silkscreened titles and decorations. Produced in an edition of 425 unnumbered copies signed by Stoumen, this copy is in very good condition, with a slight front hinge break, else fine. The original prospectus is laid-in. First Thus (In a limited edition of 425 copies).

Description: The Arion Press edition of Chandler's classic novel. This edition was limited to 425 copies and printed by Andrew Hoyem. Lou Stoumen, the photographer, has signed the copy below his contribution notes printed in the back of the book. Stoumen was a two time Academy Award winner in the documentary category. Small 4to, 249pp, (i), in publisher's white plastic covers and spine with cloth hinge. Titles and decoration in green/white on spine and front. A fine copy in the original cardboard box.

Description: First Edition, thus. Publisher's binding of decorated plastic hinged with cloth. A fine copy in the original cardboard box. Included are two original 8 x 10' photographs used in the book: 'Raymond Chandler's Grave' (page 6) and 'Agnes in Geiger's Bookshop' (page 40). Each of these has been signed in the lower margin, the second also captioned by Stoumen 'from ÔThe Big Sleep'.' The photographer was a two time Academy Award winner (1957 and 1962) in the documentary category, and was also nominated for his film about Weegee, 'The Naked Eye' in 1956. All books described as first editions are first printings unless otherwise noted.
