Description: First edition 1930. Presentation copy on the half title as follows: "To George Cornwallis-West from George Bernard Shaw, 25th Dec. 1930. You will appreciate the interlude. We are initiates". George Cornwallis-West was married to Mrs Patrick Cambell for whom the role of Orinthia was written in The Apple Cart. Underneath the presentation from Shaw is a note as follows: "Bequeathed to me by George Cornwallis-West, April 1951, Given by me to Christopher Waugh, 30th Jan. 1975, Eileen O. Welsh" (difficult to read). The book has the Ex Libris plate of George Cornwallis-West inside the front cover. Uncut page edges foxed. Small dent to the edge of the spine, else very good. Most of the dustwrapper is loosely inserted inside front and back covers. A most interesting presentation copy. 78 p.

The Apple Cart: A Political Extravaganza is a play by George Bernard Shaw. It is a satirical comedy about several political philosophies which are expounded by the characters, often in lengthy monologues. The plot follows the fictional English King Magnus as he spars with, and ultimately outwits, Prime Minister Proteus and his cabinet, who seek to strip the monarchy of its remaining political influence. Magnus opposes the corporation "Breakages, Limited", which controls politicians and impedes technical progress.
