Description: A square solid tight very carefully read copy. This copy is slightly bowed, it has two corner bumps. This copy has been signed John Updike on the title page.

Description: First Printing. Signed by the author to a laid-in decorative bookplate. The book is near fine, with the only flaw being a small area rubbed off of the top corner of the first endpage. Otherwise fine, binding square and tight. The price-clipped dust jacket -- now protected by a removable Brodart archival cover -- is otherwise near fine, with only minor edgewear, causing a few tiny 1/8" edge tears (professionally repaired), and light soiling to the rear panel. This copy is inscribed by Updike; ' For Chuck Beauchea, I'm glad you like this one, John Updike.' There is a black and white photo of Updike laid in ( corresponding to the photo of the author on the rear panel. The photo notes a publication date of September 16th. 9/16 is also written underneath the price of $4.00 on the jacket flap. The book is in fine condition. The dust jacket is hear fine with a small chip to the top edge of the front panel and a nail head sized chip to the same edge where it meets the spine fold.
