Inscribed by Burroughs on the front free endpaper: "Merry Christmas / to Dietlz [?] / from his / Uncle Ed / Tarzana / California / Christmas 1939." Octavo. 318, [1, ads], [1, blank] pages. With frontispiece and four inserted illustrations by John Coleman Burroughs. Publisher's full blue pebbled cloth, front board and spine stamped in red. In the original price-clipped dust jacket. Cloth spine sunned and worn. Boards worn, especially at edges and corners. Endleaves a bit toned and offset. Text a bit toned, the plate facing page 26 has some edgewear. Page listing Burroughs' novels has many check-marks in pencil. Jacket spine sunned, some chipping, wear to jacket, a few creased tears and other creases. Good. Zeuschner, p. 466. From the Albert E. From his friend, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzana, December 25, 1939." Obviously a Christmas gift for his friend. Teass was involved in the Hollywood film industry and was a set designer for several films. Heins, TaM-1. Illustrated by John Coleman Burroughs. The twenty fifth novel in the Tarzan series. Contemporary professional binding in full calf leather with raised bands, gilt tooling and title label. A fine handsome copy.

First edition, so stated on the copyright page. Publisher's original pebbled blue cloth with the front and spine lettered in red, top edge stained red.
