He began this series in the spring of 1980, initially photographing in black-and-white, but enjoyed the results when he tried colour and spent five years working on it when New York's subway system was at its lowest point regarding reliability, cleanliness, and safety. Book is a first edition and dust jacket has a small rub and tear on the upper front corner, otherwise there is slight rubbing to the dust jacket. Gift quality. Davidson wrote a 10-page Forword explaining how and why he took these photographs. He spent a year photographing the New York subway system using Kodachrome 64 film in a Canon 35mm camera. Henry Geldzahler wrote an Afterword. Extra postage needed.
