Sydney John Robinson's bookplate neatly pasted on the inside board. The book is from his personal collection and aged through the years. Reminiscences written in 1903, and here first collected. Wollmer 53. Inscribed on the ffe. and dated by "Augustine Birrell. Cambridge, May 17,1924. Birrell, was Chief Secretary of Ireland from 1907-1916 during the time of the Rising which he was not able to prevent and as a result, resigned and left politics forever. Birrell made his name as a literary essayist with Obiter Dicta (1884) and he continued writing and book collecting and as seen here collected Leslie Stephen.
