Photocopied image of the title page and Vita's inscription in the envelope, with Nigel's written 'Dear John, could you help with this? Who is Jeanne Beale? Nigel'. Typed letter from John Beale to Nigel Nicolson in the envelope, dated 30th April 1999. 'Dear Nigel, Jeanne Beale was my sister: she was born November 15th 1921 and died July 29th 1941. She had Brights Disease contracted when she was a baby and finally died before her 20th birthday of renal failure. Now she would have had renal dialysis and a renal transplant and still be alive in all likelihood. She was thus related to Oswald Beale being his second daughter. I am not sure who Barbara Gorely is. My sister May and I think she may have been a fellow pupil at a school for about half a dozen pupils, which Jeanne attended in 1938. I presume Jeanne gave Barbara Vita's poem Solitude and asked her to sign it. Your mother was very kind to Jeanne and supportive to my parents. Have a good jaunt to the USA! John'.
