Description: First edition, hardcover, signed by Wells on first free endpage, has very slight lean to spine with faint bowing to front board, previous owner's plate to front pastedown and inscription to second endpage, slight bumps to spine ends and corners with boards starting to peek through at corners and a touch of fraying, faint sunning to spine, and some slight shelfwear to edges, otherwise a solid VG copy in Near Fine clear protective dustjacket.

Description: *** NICE ASSOCIATION COPY ***SELECT CONVERSATIONS WITH AN UNCLE, John Lane, 1895, first edition, some tanning to the spine, rubbing to the spine extremities and fore edge corner tips, light soiling to covers, else just about a vg copy in the publishers original silver cloth binding of this, the authors first work of fiction preceding THE TIME MACHINE. Furthermore, the 3rd leaf of ads oft cited as missing because Edward Gosse's name is misspelled as Edward Goose, is here present.This copy bears the bookplate of one of Wells' contemporaries, Egerton Castle, and also has his name stamp in red very tastefully to the head of the upper margin of the title page. Directly below this, Wells has SIGNED his name. Only two SIGNED copies of this title has been in auction over the last 38 years. Very scarce thus. One of approximately 650 copies printed.
