First edition, one of 500 large paper copies signed by the author. 4to., original quarter vellum with light blue-grey paper covered boards, spine lettered in gilt, top edge in gilt, fore and bottom edges untrimmed. London, MacMillan and Co. Signed by the author to the limitation page. Spine slightly creased at head and tail, some minor offsetting to endpapers, modern bookplate to front pastedown, otherwise an excellent copy, lacking the original dust jacket and slipcase. Housed in a functional modern slipcase. With a caricature of Kipling from People in Punch 1935, loosely inserted Richards A365.

Description: A limited edition of 500 copies, signed by Rudyard Kipling. In the original slipcase with title label. Slipcase is faded with wear to edges. Dustjacket is present with small tears to edges and a very small tear half way down spine and fading. Blue grey paper covered boards with vellum spine and gilt lines and lettering to spine. Boards are in very good condition. Endpapers are stained and slightly foxed. Printed on uncut laid paper with 24 coloured plates tipped in, by Donald Maxwell. Gilt top page edge. Large quarto. A very handsome copy.
