Remaining pages are attached to the covers. The spine and spine edges are darkened, an attempt may have been made at regluing. Front cover has a stain to the upper outer corner. Description: (original card wrappers, gray printed in red, somewhat browned with age) [tears at spine ends, about one-quarter-inch strip paper loss beginning at about the middle of the front wrapper, extending across the spine and about one inch into the rear wrapper, a couple of small tears at top and bottom edges of rear wrapper, a few minor dampstains at edges; the frontispiece illustration is in Near Fine condition, and the internal leaves (all loose, as issued) are in Very Good or better condition, with the title page a bit browned]. "This the original edition, published in 1937, is limited to two hundred copies signed by the author and numbered 1 to 200," this being No. 55, SIGNED by the author on the limitation page (verso of title page). Miller's "treatment," as it were, for a film version (never made; probably never intended to be made) of Anais Nin's "The House of Incest." Contemporary gift inscription on inside front cover reads "I'll take the blame for sending this." Signed by Author

Description: Very good limited edition in wraps, #119 of 200 copies. Signed by the author on the limited edition page. Original gray-brown card wrappers with red text and graphics on front panel. Upper and lower edges are creased; several closed vertical tears of 1/4" or less. Loss of 1/4" by 1/4" at head and tail of spine. Loose internal pages (as issued) are clean but a bit browned around the edges. Page facing page 9 has irregular ink smudge on lower corner. Several pages are uncut. Please use close-up options for best inspection and in support of condition description. Additional photos available at your request. Description: First edition, first printing. One of 200 numbered copies signed by the author. With the author's signed presentation inscription on the first blank, "To Annie and Nicola with best wishes Henry Miller Paris 10/37". The identity of Annie and Nicola is something of a mystery, although Miller reports in Colossus of Maroussi of a meeting in Corfu with the local school master known universally as Nicola, but whether his partner was called Annie we do not know. From the library of John Martin with his small label inside the lower wrapper. Octavo. Signatures loosely inserted as issued into the original buff wrappers printed in red. Folding frontispiece by Abraham Rattner. Contents a little browned, wrappers tanned and chipped with some small loss at the overlapping top edge. Very good.

A wonderful association between two literary giants of the twentieth century, and signed in the place and time that is most associated with the years of their best work. Near Fine with loose signatures and card wrapper as issued.
