Description: Book is cocked. Binding is mostly cracked in two places. Rear endpapers have damp staining to the upper edge and to the lower part of the spine margin. Doesn't penetrate to the inside. Endpapers are browned. Spine has three tiny spots by the title. ; Typed letter (carbon copy? ) signed by Sybil Thorndike is attached to the front free endpaper. Letter is on her personal letterhead (no address) with her business manager, etc. , folded, and dated 18 March, 1925. Shaw was said to have written Saint Joan with Thorndike in mind, and she starred in the production.

Description: Second impression stated. Boards show a touch of wear to corners and spine ends; binding tight; pages clean with a few faint foxing spots to first and last pages. Unclipped dust jacket is complete with some faint staining and spine sunning, with wear to spine ends and corners. Inscribed on half-title page: 'For Ella Matthews/ Bernard Shaw/ Strathpeffer/ 11th Aug. 1924.' Shaw spent time in Strathpeffer, Scotland, in 1924 for lectures and dramatic performance, speaking at the historic Strathpeffer Spa Pavilion. 5 x 7-1/8". 114 pages + 2 pages of publisher's ads. Description: Tan cloth, lettered in gilt. First printing, SIGNED and inscribed by Shaw to Lilian Throckmorton on the half-title, with a silver gelatin portrait of Shaw and probably Ms. Throckmorton mounted to the facing page. Bookplate inside front cover; some foxing,particularly to ffe, spine sunned. A very good copy of a unique item.

Description: Large and lovely folio production. From an un-numbered limited edition of 750 copies. With stage settings and sketches by C. Ricketts. This copy inscribed, signed and dated by Shaw at the half-title. The book is one quarter cloth at the spine with the remainder being paper on boards. The paper spine label is perfect. The complete jacket shows moderate edge-wear on the front panel which is illustrated but still remains quite nice. The rear panel is plain buff paper but has a larger piece missing, 6 inches wide and two inches tall, along the bottom edge near the fore-edge. A very impressive copy, scarce in any condition, but signed by Shaw and with an acceptable dust jacket, very rare. Near Fine / Good.
