Seabury Quinn. Roads. Arkham House, Sauk City, WI, 1948.

Price: US$1125.00 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: Arkham House, Sauk City, WI, 1948. Black Hardcover First Edition, First Printing with DJ, 110 pp. This copy is clearly INSCRIBED in ink "To Mrs. Genevieve Gerrits, with all good wishes, Seabury Quinn, 12. 10 . 49" on FFEP. Mr. Quinn (1889-1969) was a lawyer, jounalist, and well-known author of short stories, especially his many Jules de Grandin (occult sleuth) and other stories in WEIRD TALES magazine. This was his Quinn's first book and is the first unrevised version of Roads which originally appeared in the January 1938 issue of WEIRD TALES. Superb B&W interior drawings and on DJ by Finlay. Roads is a unique Christmas fantasy in three parts: "On the Road to Bethlehem," "The Road to Calvary," and "The Long Long Road." Tells how a renowned Nordic warrior, Claus, becomes Santa Claus. This copy is near fine overall. The DJ has mild rubbing along the front edges but is bright, unclipped, and very good. The gold print is still fine, a bit of edgewear to DJ at top of spine. The book is solid, square (barely noticable bumping to corners) with mild toning on text block edges (mainly top edge). Mrs Gerrits' attractive Ex Liblris bookplate is pasted to back or front cover and my name stamp is also on FFEP. A rare and unusually well preserved copy.
