Condition: Very Good

Description: A very good or better copy in red boards with black lettering on the spine in a very good, unclipped dust jacket still showing price. INSCRIBED BY COLIN WILSON ON THE FFEP " FOR.WARM REGARDS COLIN 2-6-61." This is a first edition with no other printings shown on the copyright page The book has very mInor wear to base of spine and minor bumping to two corners. There is marginalia commencing on page 233 and on 17 pages total, some very interesting, but mostly exclamations or lines in margin. The dust jacket has relatively minor soiling to front and back and soiling darkening the whole of the spine. It has two tears on back cover and some edge chipping. A VERY presentable copy of an extremely rare novel. This is, as the cover proudly states, Colin Wilson's first novel. This is a tight copy and appears to be little read, except by the author of the marginalia.

Wilson, Colin. Ritual in the Dark - Book 1 of 'Gerard Sorme' Series ***Signed by Author***. Victor Gollancz Ltd, London, 1960.

Price: US$321.57 + shipping

Condition: Very Good

Description: First Edition / First Print. Hardback copy in red cloth boards with black lettering to spine. Price clipped dustjacket in removable protective clear sleeve. 416pp. Signed by author in black ink to ffep. Not library copy, previous owners name in ink to ffep, some creasing to dustjacket. A stark, tragic, terrible tale of a modern Jack the Ripper. The author transposed the crimes of 1888 to the 'present day', inventing a sex-killer every bit as vicious as the real 'Jack' - and has let him loose on contemporary London. Colin Wilson's first novel, which was published to great acclaim. (46/5)

Wilson, Colin. RITUAL IN THE DARK. Signed. Victor Gollancz, London, 1960.

Price: US$3850.00 + shipping

Description: 1st Edition. Hardcover. Signed by Author. The Victor Gollancz Copy Inscribed By John Braine. 8vo., 416pp. Original cloth, black lettering. Dustwrapper. First edition. Very top of spine slightly faded. Fore-edges slightly browned. Wrapper lightly browned, creased, chipped at head & heel & with short tears. A very good plus copy in a very good dustwrapper. Inscribed on the fixed front endpaper, both sides of the free endpaper & on the half title by the author John Braine to Victor Gollancz: 'Miss Hewitt - Dear V. G., After this, please don't send me any more books for at least a year; I'm not working for you. Ritual in the Dark has, despite all the advice I gave to Colin, at least 1000 ineptitudes; and, despite all these ineptitudes, is still supremely readable. It renews my youth , and makes me remember the London I once knew - the La Vie Boheme London, the (illegible word) alive London of both 1945 and 1951. It's a very bad novel; but I could read it. And if you don't think this high praise then you know nothing at all abou t me - which indeed you don't, - sentimental old bourgeois that you are - or about any kind of mature writing! John Braine.' An important presentation inscription, John Braine being one of the people Colin Wilson acknowledges along with Victor Gollancz himself on the dedication leaf.
