The is a presentation copy from Redbook magazine, stated as such on a tipped-in page. Some sunning to boards and spine, otherwise about VERY GOOD+. Open tear affecting the "e" in "The" of the banner stating "The $2500 Prize Novelette" at top of front cover, 2 smaller open tears at bottom of front cover, closed tear to back top cover, otherwise a GOOD+ dust jacket with the original $1.25 price intact. A scarce signed presentation copy.

Description: First Edition, INSCRIBED AND SIGNED VERY PERSONALLY to J., the original "dear reader", by Stegner, signing as "Wally". 8vo, publisher’s original blue boards, the spine and upper cover gilt lettered, in the original dustjacket. 154 pp. A very nice copy, some offset from the dustjacket spine lettering to the spine of the book, and a few minorl chips to the jacket edges. AN ATTRACTIVE COPY OF THIS VERY PERSONAL INSCRIBED AND SIGNED STEGNER TITLE. A prize winning novelette, it was Wallace Stegner's first book. It was awarded the Little, Brown prize. Stegner considered J. his favorite reader and wrote as much when he inscribed another book to her in later years.
