As part of his duties, Ford was assigned to explore the biography of accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. The effort resulted in this detailed study of the life of the Commission-identified Lone Gunman, who was killed before facing trial. Signed by co-authors Gerald R. Ford and John R. Ford, born Leslie Lynch King Jr., (1913 - 2006) was appointed to the Warren Commission on November 29th, 1963 by President Lyndon B. Johnson, which was a special task force set up to investigate the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Ford was assigned to prepare a biography of accused assassin Lee Harvey Oswald. He and Earl Warren also interviewed Jack Ruby, Oswald's killer. According to a 1963 FBI memo that was released to the public in 2008, Ford was in contact with the FBI throughout his time on the Warren Commission and relayed information to the deputy director, Cartha DeLoach, about the panel's activities. In the preface to his book, "A Presidential Legacy and The Warren Commission," Ford defended the work of the commission and reiterated his support of its conclusions. Signed by Gerald R.
