HUXLEY, Aldous. POINT COUNTER POINT. Chatto & Windus, 1928.

Price: US$1065.57 + shipping

Description: First edition. Signed limited edition, number 55 of 256 copies signed by Huxley. Olive green buckram lettered in gilt on the spine. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. A very good copy indeed, spine lightly sunned as usual. Huxley's longest novel and, after Brave New World, his most significant and most highly regarded work. As with Crome Yellow, the characters are mainly thinly veiled caricatures of friends and acquaintances, but unlike that earlier work Point Counter Point shows a more satirical development in Huxley's writing.

Huxley, Aldous. Point Counter Point.. Chatto & Windus, London, 1928.

Price: US$1200.00 + shipping

Description: First edition of Huxley's classic satiric novel. Octavo, bound in full morocco by the Harcourt bindery, gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, gilt inner dentelles stamp-signed by the Harcourt Bindery, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. In fine condition. Point Counter Point's title is a reference to the flow of arguments in a debate, and a series of these exchanges tell the story. Instead of a single central plot, there are a number of interlinked story lines and recurring themes (as in musical "counterpoint"). As a roman à clef, many of the characters are based on real people, most of whom Huxley knew personally, such as D. H. Lawrence, Katherine Mansfield, Sir Oswald Mosley, Nancy Cunard, and John Middleton Murry, and Huxley is depicted as the novel's novelist, Philip Quarles. It was named by Modern Library as one of the 100 greatest novels of the twentieth century.
